Bessac Canada has been selected by the city of Toronto to offer its expertise in tunnels. The Fairbank Silverthorn Storm System Project is part of the City of Toronto Basement Flooding Protection Program (BFPP).

The project consists in a large-diameter storm trunk tunnel with a new outfall connection to Black Creek watercourse with a combined length of approximately 2.9 kilometres. The main tunnel is 4.5 metre internal-diameter and approximately 2.4 km long, ranging in depth from 7 to 45 m. Than, the sewer is to be mostly micro- tunneled between several shafts, with a total length of 525 m and an internal-diameter of 1.8 m. The last section of the sewer, approximately 120 m length up to a new outfall is proposed as trenched and open cut.


The Project Managerment Coordinator is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering corporate projects on time, within budget, and in accordance to specifications. To achieve these important goals, the Project Manager Coordinator will work closely with the Project Manager to define project requirements and scope, acquire project resources, and supervise the efforts of project team members. The candidate will :


·         Provide leadership, establish and maintain effective and harmonious relationships with client, staffs, subcontractors, consultants, and workers;


·         Manage all technical aspects of the work associated with the tunnels and be the liaison between design and construction;


·         Track project costs to ensure completion within budget;


·         Perform quantity tracking and cost coding for purposes of productivity analysis and accurate cost forecasting;


·         Plan project timelines, milestones, and deliverables using the appropriate software tools and/or methods;


·         Manage the condition survey and monitoring subcontractor and ensure appropriate implementation and execution of this scope of work;


·         Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify compliance with expected practices and look for opportunities for improvement;

·        Assist in carrying out a variety of basic field duties at the job site related to general construction;


·         Participate in the creation of project specific standards, methods and safety procedures;


·         When conducting daily site inspections, identify hazards and suggest controls related to the various jobs, procedures, equipment, and contaminants or particular situations;


·         Ensure consistency in expected safety performance on projects and verify that the progressive discipline system is being fairly and consistently applied;


·         Order critical materials from suppliers in collaboration with the Superintendent;


·         Prepare daily reports as related to the crew, progress, and issues;

·         Provide document control for correspondence, submittals, RFI’s, NCR, etc.;

·         Assist in the preparation of final records for the project, including as-built;


Efficient delivery of project deliverables, effective quality control, and clear communication of expectations to stakeholders, and upward reporting to senior management are critical tasks that must be performed throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements :

·         Previous civil construction experience with underground works specifically tunnels involving the use of TBM and/or MTBM;

·         Related job experience of 5-10 years in construction project management, working on heavy civil construction or mining sites;

·         Degree in Civil/Mining Engineering, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology;

·         Demonstrated success in project delivery and execution of project management methods;

·         Advanced skills in management, negotiation, communication, and problem solving;

·         Initiative and leadership;

·         Highly organized and self-motivated;

·         Ability to attend to detail and work in an accurate and efficient manner;

·         Ability to effectively manage and complete priorities on a daily basis;

·         Excellent knowledge of Autocad, MS Office, MS Project;

·         Bilingualism in French and English, considered a strong asset;

·         Valid Driver’s license.
